Dr. Camilla Nonterah, Assistant Professor of Health Psychology, will address how the social, economic and physical environment in which an individual lives influences their health and well-being. This talk will focus on how the social determinants of health, such as experiences of racism and discrimination, geographical residence, and policies that disenfranchise certain groups, influence the health of people of color. The talk will end with a discussion of protective factors against the deleterious effects of social stressors, and ways to reduce health disparities.

“In Common’ is a discussion series sponsored by the Office of Common Ground and Boatwright Library that offers shared learning experiences for members of the university community. Lunch will be provided, so registration is required. If your plans change, please let us know asap.
